Analysis of the difference between industrial control motherboard and commercial
source: Ling Jiang Release time:2019-10-24
In our work and life, many people will come into contact with the commercial motherboard and the industrial control motherboard. Many people ask what is the difference between the commercial motherboard and the industrial control motherboard. What is good about the industrial control system board? What's good about it? Why is the price of industrial control motherboard higher than that of commercial motherboard? This paper makes a detailed comparison between commercial motherboard and industrial control motherboard, and introduces the differences between them.
Table description comparison:
1. Material and design of main board components:
Commercial motherboard:
Due to its fast update speed and low requirements for product stability and use environment, the commercial mainboard pursues the timeliness of the product and the market positioning of its own products. Generally speaking, it only needs to meet the service life of the system for 2 to 3 years (most of them have been updated and replaced after 3 years), and the materials of the components are used Just use the normal level. For example, capacitors are widely used in commercial motherboards, one is for the use of commercial market products, the other is to reduce the cost of motherboards.
Industrial control main board:
1) components of industrial control main board
The selection of materials for the industrial control main board will select components with high requirements after a long time, so as to ensure the high reliability requirements of the products under severe conditions. For example, the components of the industrial control main board need to adapt to the wide temperature environment (- 20 ℃ ~ 60 ℃), such as solid-state capacitors, to ensure normal operation in the harsh environment (permanent start-up, harsh climate, humidity, vibration, dust, radiation, high temperature, etc.); the components of the main board need to be resistant to high temperature, humidity, etc.
2) capacitance of industrial control main board
The industrial control motherboard adopts high-quality chip type solid-state capacitors, tantalum and ceramic capacitors. Even if the electrolytic capacitors are used, their quality, performance and life requirements are far higher than those of commercial products. Now the industrial control motherboard basically adopts solid-state capacitors, especially the high-end industrial control motherboard. The commercial mainboard is basically a large number of pin type large electrolytic capacitors, because the cost of large electrolytic capacitors is low and the capacity value is large, one can top multiple patches or flat capacitors. In terms of properties, the stability of electrolytic capacitor is not as high as tantalum capacitor and ceramic capacitor, the service life is not as long as them, and the high temperature resistance is not as good as them. Patch capacitors are more stable than pin capacitors. In terms of price, tantalum capacitor is more expensive than ordinary electrolytic capacitor, and because the capacity of tantalum capacitor is small, more capacitors need to be used when it is used on the main board. The cost of tantalum capacitor alone is dozens of times of electrolytic capacitor, which is one of the reasons why the cost of industrial control main board is higher than that of commercial main board With the increasing number of domestic solid-state capacitor manufacturers, the price of solid-state capacitors has declined, and now high-grade commercial mainboards are using solid-state capacitors.
3) PCB of industrial control main board
The commercial main board adopts a 4-layer PCB design. The general PCB circuit board is divided into four layers. The top and bottom two layers are the signal layer, and the middle two layers are the grounding layer and the power layer. Put the grounding and power layer in the middle. The industrial motherboard adopts the circuit board design with more than 6 layers of PCB, which is designed to strengthen the anti electromagnetic interference, electromagnetic compatibility and stability of the motherboard.
4) service life of industrial control main board
Different from commercial mainboards, the service life of most industrial control mainboards is more than 3 years, and the service life of some high-quality industrial control mainboards even reaches 5-7 years.
2. CPU difference:
In the past, the difference between the CPU of the commercial main board and the CPU of the industrial control main board was not obvious, which led to some of the most profit seeking businesses using the CPU of the commercial main board as the CPU of the industrial control main board to earn more profits. However, in 2009, Intel set up an embedded department dedicated to industrial control field, and the difference between commercial CPU and industrial control CPU is growing.
1) power consumption and process of CPU
The main board of industrial control generally uses the CPU with low power consumption, so as to adapt to the harsh environment application of industrial control industry. Before atom N270 CPU, Intel didn't have a special embedded department, only took industrial control field as a common CPU application industry. Since Intel formally established the embedded department in 2009, it means that Intel has formally separated the commercial CPU and industrial control CPU, and Intel has paid more and more attention to the development of embedded industrial control field. It has successively released atom n230, N270, N280 and other low-power CPUs to distinguish the commercial CPU and industrial control CPU. In the future, Intel will develop lower power consumption and process for industrial control industry applications, and integrate some functions of the North South Bridge into the CPU on the processor to meet the use requirements of industrial control industry.
2) circuit design of CPU
Because the industrial control motherboard needs to adapt to the industrial application environment of wide temperature and wide voltage, the industrial control motherboard can adapt to a wider range of voltage than the commercial motherboard, and the voltage range of the industrial control motherboard is generally between 9-20v. For the CPU circuit layout and design, the requirements are more precise.
3) different anti electromagnetic interference capabilities
Due to the market positioning and good use environment of common commercial mainboards, their products are generally only used for commercial level EMC test, with low anti electromagnetic interference ability.
The main board of industrial control needs to pass EMI, EMC and other tests and certification because it is aimed at the industrial market and has high requirements for anti electromagnetic interference. This needs to be considered from two aspects: one is the circuit layout design of the main board; the other is the material selection and structure of the chassis, power supply and grounding.
3. Production scheduling process and testing process
The industrial control board is often developed according to some application, and may only adapt to some application, so its usage
